Did you know these facts about Father’s Day –
Father’s Day is the busiest day of the year for “collect” phone calls.
It started in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. Sonora Dodd started the campaign to recognize fathers after hearing a Mother’s Day sermon in church. Dodd’s father was a Civil War vet who had cared for the family after his wife died giving birth to the couple’s 6th child. Dodd celebrated the first Father’s Day by bringing gifts to sick fathers all over Spokane.
It was seen as the subject of humor and jokes in newspapers. In 1916 Woodrow Wilson wanted to participate in a Father’s Day ceremony but his advisors disagreed and would not let him do it. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson made a proclamation that Father’s Day would be celebrated the same day each year. In 1972 President Nixon signed into law that Father’s Day was a permanent National Holiday.
Hope Dad had a great day … and scrap those photos of dad for your future memories ….
